Bariatric Acne Treatments

Acne is one of the common skin problems of the teenage, which responds well to treatment. Various medical options are available to treat active acne, the choice of which depends mainly on the age of the patient, and the severity and extent of the lesions.

If left untreated or inadequately treated, it can lead to the formation of scars. So, the earlier the acne is treated, the lesser the chance of scar formation. Acne scar treatment is aimed at reducing the severity of the scars and improving the appearance of the skin.

There are different types of acne scars depending on their depth, size, elevation and color.

Some of the acne scar treatments are

arrow Subcision
arrow Punch elevation/ excision/ graft replacement
arrow Dermabrasion
arrow Microdermabrasion
arrow Soft tissue augmentation and fillers
arrow Chemical peels
arrow Cryotherapy
arrow Laser therapy

The choice of the modality depends on the type of scar. In some cases of active acne, intralesional injections and cryospray are needed, especially for cysts and nodules.

Vitiligo Treatments

Faq What is Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a very common skin disorder. The skin is normal in all respects except for the loss of colour and hence an increased tendency to sunburn. It carries a great social stigma and causes severe mental stress to the person. The management of vitiligo starts with medical treatment. Surgical treatment is considered only when the medical line of treatment has not been effective or only partially effective with halt in the progress of pigmentation.

Faq When is patient considered for surgery?
The patient is considered fit for surgical treatment when the patch is stable, and has remained the same size for atleast 2 years.

Faq How does surgery help in Vitiligo and what are the choices?
  Surgery helps to:

arrow Introduce artificial pigment to recolor the patch
arrow Supply pigment producing melanocytes from normal skin in the form of grafts or melanocyte suspensions
arrow Stimulate multiplication and migration of melanocytes from the edges of the patch in to the patch.

Some of the surgical treatments are
arrow Surgical Tattooing
arrow Excision
arrow Therapeutic wounding- microdermabrasion/ needling/ cryo/ chemical cautery
arrow Grafting
arrow Cultured/ non-cultured melanocyte suspensions

Faq What is surgical tattooing?
Surgical Tattooing is the procedure for the deposition of artificial pigment into the white patch under sterile conditions. After selecting the pigment shade which matches the surrounding skin color, the pigment granules are implanted into the white patch with needles, either manually or using a tattoo machine.

Faq What is miniature punch grafting?
Multiple small cylindrical skin grafts of 2 - 2.5 mm diameter are taken from an area of normal colored skin by special punches and grafted on to the white patch. Once the grafts are 'taken up' the patient is treated with phototherapy to stimulate pigment formation. Re pigmentation occurs in 3 - 6 months and good cosmetic result is obtained

Faq What is ultra-thin skin grafting?
A very superficial thin layer of normal colored skin is grafted onto the white patch. The pigment producing cells migrate into the white patch. In 2 - 3 months the pigment spreads to fill up the patch with color to match the surrounding skin.
