Thyroid
& Endocrine Surgery
Endocrine means ‘secreting internally’.
Endocrine organs like thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals,
pancreatic islets, etc., remote control various
parts of the body by releasing hormones (complex
chemical messengers) that circulate in the blood.
They influence almost every part of, and function
of our body. Even minor alterations can lead to
major, varied health problems and can be difficult
to diagnose.
 |
Brittle and painful bones and urinary stones may be due to excess parathyroid hormone |
 |
Fluctuating blood pressure and anxiety attacks may be due to adrenal and other Neuroendocrine tumors |
 |
Fits and episodes of unconsciousness may be due to an insulinoma |
 |
Acidity and persistent or recurrent stomach ulcers may be due to gastrinoma |
 |
Obesity may be due to Cushing’s disease or thyroid deficit |
 |
Weight loss may be due to excess thyroid |
Endocrine gland swellings other than thyroid swellings
are rare. Hence only surgeons devoted to these
problems i.e. endocrine surgeons acquire enough
experience operating on them, though General surgeons,
Endoscopic surgeons and other specialists (ENT
specialists, Head & Neck surgeons, Urologists,
Cancer surgeons) do perform endocrine surgeries.
Specialist endocrine surgery experience and facilities
are available at very few centers around the world.
We have experience of both endoscopic (minimally
invasive) surgeries and open endocrine surgeries,
a very rare combination. Hence in addition to
effective and safe surgery, we are able to offer
our patients many options. We perform surgery
for a variety of Thyroid swellings including Thyroid
cancers, Parathyroid adenoma and swellings, Insulinoma
and other Neuro endocrine tumors, Adrenal and
extra adrenal tumors (Pheochromocytoma, Conn’s
syndrome, and Cushing’s Disease, etc.).
